How to set up a custom startup macro in PowerMill

Modified on Thu, 3 Apr at 12:10 PM

Issue:

How can custom settings such as a shading tolerance, feed rate, NC preferences; be defined in a startup macro in PowerMill.

Solution:

Edit and use the default pmuser.mac.

Edit the default pmuser.mac file which stores custom startup settings.
The file can be found at C:\Program Files\Autodesk\PowerMill <version number>\lib\macro\:

  1. Open PowerMill.
  2. Select Home > Macro > Record to start recording a macro > save this macro to a desired location.
  3. Set the required parameters in PowerMill and stop the macro.
  4. Open the macro using Notepad++ or similar, then copy the required parameters from the recorded macro and paste into the pmuser.mac.
  5. Close PowerMill then restart, where the new settings should take affect.

Note: pmuser.mac will be deleted should PowerMill be uninstalled.

Setting up the macro and keeping it on the PC

To set a macro and keeping it on the PC even if the PowerMill software is uninstalled, is to make a copy of the default pmuser.mac and save it in another location on the PC, then point PowerMill to this macro.

1. Use the default pmuser.mac as a starting point, but copy the pmuser.mac and paste in a location with read/write access.
2. Open PowerMill.
3. FILE > OPTIONS > CUSTOMISE PATHS > MACRO PATHS.
4. Point to the directory where the copied pmuser.mac is located and then restart PowerMill.
